Introduction The recorded interview was a tough assignment in my opinion, harder than what I thought it would have been. Being as to how I work in a clinical setting, interviewing patients I thought would have come naturally, however that was not the case. Although patients and peers have complimented me on my assessment skills, in this recorded interview I do not feel as though any of the skills I used came naturally. This could be due to the fact that I knew I was being recorded, or the mere fact that I interviewed a family member. Throughout the interview I was truly focused on “what are the right things to say”, I quickly learned in this session that there is not always a definite right or wrong statement. • Action: Alexis has begun the process to obtain reliable transportation in order to get register for the courses.
• Realistic: Alexis states that she has completed two years of her cosmetology hours already and was close to being done with her certification if she re-enrolls. As well as with obtaining transportation the following day Alexis states that she would be able to have access to getting to resources.
• Timely: Alexis reports that she would like to enroll for courses after she gives birth, due to not wanting to begin courses and having to stop due to maternity leave.
After developing a SMART plan with Alexis I also felt a short-term goal that would correlate with obtaining her goal would be stepping outside of her comfort zone and interact more in a social setting. I felt this would allow her to become more open and offer a new perspective that she could utilize her strengths and control her anger. However, Alexis was not receptive of this goal that I mention and stated it was unreasonable. Alexis also felt that my suggestion was more of a command versus a friendly proposal that would aid in her social skills needed in her line of
