Post which 1-2 facts do you find most compelling or convincing

The two facts that I found most compelling and convincing are 1.) the current minimum wage is not high enough to allow people to afford housing, and 2.) raising the minimum wage would disadvantage low-skilled workers (ProCon). I believe that without any different types of investment, it is hard for individuals to afford housing for their family with the minimum wage pays. Also as the website mentions, in California in 2015, with a minimum wage job, people need to work 92 hours a week to be able to afford housing (ProCon). I wonder if in the 92 hours, 52 hours of work time were pad as overtime? I also agree that raising the minimum wage would disadvantage low skilled workers because

Shamus Cooke, the author of the article, discusses the ways in which an increase to a fifteen dollar minimum wage would be beneficial for all workers by bringing up statistics as well as discussing corporate greed. I intend to use this source by using the statistics about how much the U.S. economy is constituted from consumer spending to support a point I made about how raising the wage boosts the economy. Cooke also discussed how corporations value their profits, which in turn means paying their worker less. This directly supported another claim I made in my paper about how the blame should not be directed towards workers asking for better pay, but should instead be directed towards the corporations who can afford to pay them a better wage…

In conclusion, there has been a history of arguments on whether the minimum wage should be raised or not. There are positives and negatives for both sides. I believe that minimum wage should stay the same, because if a worker is a good employee, then he should get a raise by working hard. I also believe it should be raised, because it would make minimum wage workers feel more important if being paid more. To solve the controversy, the minimum wage should stay the same or, the government should have a scheduled raise on the minimum…

The cartoon by A.F Branco on Comically Incorrect very clearly portrays the problems with raising minimum wage. There is a man that just got his meal from a fast food restaurant while a man is serving him. The man says “12 bucks for a crappy lil’ hamburger” (Branco)?! Then the worker says to the man “Look on the bright side, now I'm getting $15.00 an hour” (Branco) while another worker is walking out saying there is no bright side because he just got laid off. The worker is getting paid 15 dollars per hour for just serving his meal and there are clear effects of that.…

The Social Problem Minimum wage was first created in 1938 during the Great Depression under Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) presidency. Minimum wage started off as $0.25 an hour and has been changed for a total of 22 times by the year 2009. Initially, minimum was introduced to cover women and minors, due to the fact that white men were able to rely on the union as a safety net and that they earned higher wages (Kaufman, 2012). Currently in Louisiana minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Although the current minimum wage is significantly higher than what it used to be at $ 0.25, it still does not suffice to meeting the modern individual’s needs in 2017.…

Marvin, I am really glad that you enjoyed reading my post this week. I do agree that minimum wage is a huge topic. I am glad that you noticed that minimum wage is not meant to be lived off of, but for the minimum it is really meant for the one individual themselves to live off of. Since 1938 the United States government came up with an idea called minimum wage. The reason why minimum wage jobs were made were for people in poverty to get a better job or to go back to school or kids so they could make money for school and other things. So making minimum wage higher to help these people out to get to the next step is what we want to do. In the article “Raising the Minimum Wage: Effects on Family Poverty” by Ronald B. Mincy, states that two men named Edward M. Gramlich and Terrence Kelly proved “that most work low wage workers are not poor.” (18).…

Intro: The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, which means that depending on where you live, working for an hour will barely buy you a Chipotle burrito (this is without guac). Because of inflation, the minimum wage today is worth a few dollars less than before. Many politicians agree that we should raise minimum wage. Bernie sanders for example said “Nobody who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty, a job should lift workers out of poverty, not keep them in it.”…

The minimum wage is a controversial political issue. Americans’ views on the minimum wage law vary widely; some citizens believe that it should be abolished entirely, others think that the minimum amount should be expanded to match the rate of inflation. Raising the minimum wage does not come without its issues. However adjusting the minimum wage to match inflation, the United States would see an increase in economic activity, a reduction in poverty, and a reduction in race and gender inequalities.…

Good morning fellow classmates, I appreciate the privilege to present a speech on my policy which is about why the federal government should not increase the federal minimum wage past the existing one. Those of you that are employed and get paid the minimum wage are aware that as of January 1st, 2017, the minimum wage escalated to $10.50 an hour. Of course, the thought of earning additional money by the hour sounds astonishing, but what if this causes negative effects on other people or groups. Even though people may argue that raising the minimum wage can be beneficial in different ways, I’m here to tell you the truth about the real outcomes of raising it. First of all, one of the many groups that will be greatly affected by the raising of the minimum wage would be companies or businesses as well as their employees, particularly diminutive ones.…

Millions of people and families would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage. Today the federal minimum wage is currently at $7.25, but should be at nearly $10, or better yet even higher.
