Specifically, we spoke about millennials inability to communicate interpersonally and how it may be caused by technology (Lecture, 2016). While at Bobbi and The Strays I payed close attention to how much people within my age group spoke to one another. I noticed that when volunteering and helping with the animals they would pay less attention to their phones and actually speak to one another. It was in that moment that I realized that if we as a society want to be able to communicate interpersonally once again we must put ourselves in social situations. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and strengthen communication skills. Because the workers Bobbi and The Strays allows younger children to come in and volunteer together they are unknowingly helping the kids learn to move away from their cellular devices and actually get to know one another. I’ve come to realize that importance of speaking to people face to face especially when trying to enact social change. Although technology is very helpful when trying to spread information, being able to express issues and concerns interpersonally is just as helpful. As some point in our lives, especially in the lives of social activist, we must all be able to clearly communicate our feelings to one another, in person.
