Assessment using evidence based practice such as the fulmer SPICES is such an important practice as a nurse that can help prevent common injuries while promoting safety when caring for older adults. Most older adults are able to do simple task while others are completely dependent with their care givers. Majority of the patients that were assigned to me has ADL issues and it is very important as a nurse to implement or have the right nursing care plan to promote safety and avoid injuries to these patients. As the individuals ages, protection against illnesses decreases because of the ability of their body systems to protect diminishes as they get older. Older adults are vulnerable to common illnesses and they are susceptible to falls, injury, skin problems, malnutrition, sleeping disorders, voiding problem, and decrease overall strength due to immobility and current medical conditions. Fulmer SPICES assessment can help identify those common problems and prevent injuries from happening that can lead to complications.
