This paper will demonstrate and describe over the course of seven weeks how diagnosis, assessment, and treatment plans help to avoid relapse leading to a successful recovery. Counselors may come into contact with a substance abuse client through the community, special events, engagements, public places such as grocery stores, and counseling or other social groups. Also it will discuss a Counselor-Client relationship and the importance of boundary crossing versus boundary violations. The American Counseling Association (ACA) moral principles are evidence-base identifiers that mediate between the fine line of what a counselor perimeter should be to assist with prevention and determine proper decision-making when facing difficult ethical dilemmas. When differentiating the boundary crossing and boundary violations a counselor can establish the proper measures in why they should modify or alter the decision-making when confronted or faced with a boundary dilemma of which may cause the counselor to violate the boundaries with their client. Boundary issues, mostly refer to the therapist’s self- disclosure, bartering’s, touch fees, and gift exchange. These encounters can present itself during the sessions, extending the length of a Substance abuse client session, and/or being out of the office. However, a counselor needs to ensure dual relationships are not unethical which can cause conflict between a friend, associate, employee, or business partners. Boundary crossing can…
