Assessment/Critical Analysis The Third Circuit District Attorney’s office offers services to the counties of Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Lafayette, Marshall, Tippah and Union. In these counties approximately fifteen cases of sexual battery occurs when the person is in a position of trust or authority over the child within our school districts. It is evident that teachers and school systems have laws and policy’s that they have to abide by concerning student/teacher relationships. The educators of Mississippi have their own Code of Ethics that they have to abide by. According to Mississippi Department of Education, “This code shall apply to all persons licensed according to the rules established by the Mississippi State Board of Education and protects the health, safety and general welfare of students and educators.” If the Code of Ethics are not abided by, this will result in the educators license’s being terminated. Some schools have rules of not being alone with students, or not accepting friend requests on social media. These are some great rules that can be effective, however, I believe my proposal for the Victim’s Advocates from the District Attorney’s office to visit the schools before the school year starts will help refresh the teachers knowledge on the State of Mississippi laws concerning sexual battery and the laws to mandatory report these instances.
