What is the value of education? To answer that question, one must first define “value”. Most would define value as the worth of said object. Many people would say that the worth of education is what it brings to students. Regardless of how the value of education is perceived, many of history’s most famous philosophers and writers like Paulo Freire, Frederick Douglass, and Martha Nussbaum all seem to agree on the same general idea: the value of education is the empowerment that it gives people.…

U2 AC 1.2 - Compare the strengths and limitations of teaching and learning approaches used in own area of specialism in relation to meeting individual learner needs. My area of education is driving instruction for cars, meaning I teach people to drive a car to the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) driving test standard. One of the strengths of this type of tuition is that it is specialised or dedicated one to one which is very good for the type of learners I attract. Older people and people with special needs require this type of tuition because it is focused on one thing at a time and once learned it is easy to re-enforce by moving on to the next stage of learning.…
Another year has come and the past and yet again Nevada has made its presence known; but not in the way it wants. Nevada, as keeping in tradition, has for the third year in the row ranked last among all states and Washington DC in education. Now this won 't come as a surprise to many, with the lackluster funding, and scandal that continuously define Nevada 's education system. Yet nevertheless, this isn 't the kind of news Nevadans want to hear. And with the current debate over Core Curriculum, and the several education-related initiatives on this year 's 2016 ballot; the conversation over education has never been so relevant.…
Identify an assessment you used to evaluate your students’ developing knowledge and skills. It should be an assessment to be completed by the entire class. In math every time we use tickets out the door, observations, and the chapter review of that particular section to assess that our students are learning and understanding concepts. The assessment for this particular activity that I choose is the ticket out the door.…
Each of these elements should be connected to the daily activities in the classroom, reflecting the philosophy of the center/program with the purpose of offering a better learning and…
These are the types of problems that many people are facing and needed to be fix in order for someone to success in education. It is very important that people have a notion of how essential education is and what education can do to us. One of the values and habit an individual needs to adopt in order to success is getting educated. The primary purpose of education is not all about completing that tasks, read this chapter, and pass this course with A. The principle of education is to teach children in the skills they need for their future career and help prevent children from turning into gangs, drug addict, and rely on government fund.…
A possible limitation of this review were the studies which addressed potential functions of mind wandering which did not provide substantial causal evidence to support their concepts. This review aimed to structure the literature presented on mind wandering over the last 30 years by framing it in a new context that would influence its integration into main stream models of executive attention. The strength of this review was in how it provided an extensive framework for describing the existing empirical evidence on mind wandering through combining present views of executive control and meta awareness with assumptions from previous theoretical accounts. The studies included in this review concluded that during mind wandering, executive control becomes disengaged from the primary task and attention is divided between internal and external information, also referred to as decoupling. Furthermore, the failure of goal orientated processes directed at the primary task was observed and resulted in the impairment of performing complex working memory tasks during mind…
Before starting the mindfulness practices in class, I had little to no knowledge about what mindfulness was and what benefits it could bring to a person. My interest in mindfulness grew when we discussed the results of various scientific studies and the benefits mindfulness brings such as changing the structure of the brain, reduce anxiety, and stop fight or flight response in stressful situations. During our first mindfulness session in class, it was difficult for me to concentrate as my mind kept switching from thought to thought and I could not make it stop. I thought I was the only one who was not successful during the practice, but it was comforting to see that others were struggling with the same problem as well. Additionally, I was…
Now that I understand more about myself I can use this awareness in several ways. First, now I know that I am a tactile learner. This will affect the courses that I chose for grades 11 and 12 I will choose courses like art, science, and co-op. These courses will help me learn in the most efficient way possible because they all involve getting to try new things. In science there are labs, in co-ops, you are in a workplace, and in the arts, you get to constantly try new things and be challenged.…
Mindfulness is mind-wandering. Mindfulness training helps us become less concerned and interested in the content of our mind. Mindfulness causes less stress, more happiness, and improves our mental functioning. Mindfulness includes our thoughts and our feelings. However, when we are mindful, we can observe our thoughts and our feelings without feeling the need to judge them based on if they are good or bad.…
Mindfulness is the act of focusing on the present and preventing your mind from drifting off or from worrying about the future. It is also about being fully aware and attentive to the “now,” which refers to what you are currently doing or what you are currently thinking about. I have a tremendously annoying tendency to let running thoughts occupied my mind whenever I am in the process of working on or completing a particular task. I would tell myself that I am indeed focused on the task at hand, but I know that is false and that I am in denial. To illustrate this, we can examine my poor study habits.…
As humans, we all have things we are good at and others that we aren’t even competent in. For some it might be math and people skills respectively, for others the opposite. For the majority of my life I’ve been working on one of the most important skills for my future –Learning. In the world of philosophy one of the greatest assets is the mind and its ability to learn and question. Like most students I’ve been thought that to be a good student you have to abide by everything the teacher tells you.…
In other words, what have I learned through my education? Have I been trained in one special area or have I gained an education not only in one area, but also in learning about myself and who I am? According to Webster’s dictionary, education is defined by the development and training of one’s mind, character, and skills, as by instruction, study, or example and the knowledge and skill resulting from such instruction and training.…
Each teacher has his or her own method of teaching. No one teacher teaches the same way as another. These methods are manifested in a teacher’s education philosophy, or “the principles that guide professional action. ”(Parkay, 2015, p.114) A teacher creates his or her philosophy by examining his/her beliefs in a variety of categories, like what a teacher’s role should be, what a student’s role should be, and what should be taught.…
