Motivation is a means to get students engaged, and help students want to learn. Mrs. Church does a great job with motivation in her classroom. The students in Mrs. Church’s class are supposed to read and take accelerated reader test on the books. The students earn points for doing well on the tests, which the students have a monthly goal for accelerated reader points. Therefore, Mrs. Church rewards the students who make their monthly goals by rewarding them with a movie and popcorn day. Also, Mrs. Church rewards students for good behavior; she gives out keycards when a student is caught on their best behavior. Whoever receives a keycard gets their name put into a drawing for a chance to win a prize. The motivation that Mrs. Church uses works wonderfully in her schoolroom. Also, when students see other students, receiving rewards, they are more apt to behave because they want a prize as well. …show more content…
There are two types of assessments, formal and informal, and Mr. Dohrmann uses both types in his fifth-grade classroom. The students are assessed in math, reading, science, history, and language arts. The students are evaluated through test, quizzes, papers and projects. For formal evaluation, Mr. Dohrmann uses letter grades, A through F, where A is the highest grade and F is the lowest grade. The formal assessment that is used in his class is the general assessment for a fifth-grade student. The informal assessment that Mr. Dohrmann uses includes telling the students great job when they answer questions correctly. He also gives away stickers and put stars on the students’ papers.
