Independence encourages individuals to make their own decisions as well as feeling belonged. This is because by promoting independence it can allow individuals to feel a sense of achievement and pride in their accomplishments. Promoting independence can also allow individuals to feel like they have a purpose and thus relieves the feeling of dependency on others. The lack of independence in a person’s life, can make the individual feel defeated, depressed, or begin to doubt their own ability to care for themselves. This can affect one’s self-esteem, causing deterioration in health and cognitive ability. This is supported by NICE which states that helping a person remain as independent as possible is an important factor to maintain their
