Certainly, the reading this week highlights one of the most important use of a hypothesis when conducting research. A hypothesis is an educated guess that can be proven, with either a positive or negative conclusion in the research. Knowing the difference between a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis allows researchers to plan their research accordantly. For instance, if a researcher is planning to research the relationship between two or more variables the alternative hypothesis approach would work best in conducting the research. However, if a researcher plans to conduct a research where relationships between variable do not exists then the null hypothesis is best suited for that research (APUS 2017). Not knowing or having a full understanding on how a null or alternative hypothesis will assist in defining a research would complicate the research and waste time in the search for a viable answer for the research.

One downfall in utilizing a hypothesis is adding addition hypothesis. Introducing additional hypothesis to a research will continue to add additional data, that may not positively contribute to the research. In conducting a research, I believe that two hypotheses is useful in comparing, contrasting, and identifying the rationality of a research. Furthermore, in conducting my research on “The Will of the Subconscious During Interrogation” The first hypothesis I would test the alternative hypothesis, to identify the relationship between variables. For example, testing to identify if culture, age, or stubbornness factors into the unwillingness to corporate during an interrogation.
