This model is developed by the Leonard Stein and Mary Ann Test and their colleagues in Madison, Wisconsin, USA in 1970. Originally it was the Training programme called as Training in community living, later it`s name had changed that was Programme of assertive community treatment (PACT). Gradually which approaches was adopted by the PACT and as per the followed guideline and principle has reproduce and spread all over the world. As per the national context their name has been also changed. Such as “Assertive outreach team”(AOT), “Mobile treatment team”(MTT), “Continuous treatment team”(CTT). But the widely used the Assertive community treatment label as the ingredient of the PACT.
Features of the ACT model
The ACT model is providing the effective services, by the using team approach at the community level to the severe mental ill patient. Some important features were seen that followed.

Accordance to that the service providence pattern and services is varies from the agency to agency and programme to programme. As per the patient’s needs the Multidisciplinary team (ACT) provide the multiple client needed service at the community level that the treatment point of view like physical care, consolation on the symptoms. Rehabilitation point of view like employment oriented training, interpersonal relationship. Such, family services, practical help, substance related services etc.
Team approach: The ACT is run on the team approach that in the team every member is responsible to the team activities and client. There is caseload sharing pattern that each member of the team are engaged in the daily activity with client that planning of treatment, problem solving, discuss with a patient and rehabilitation. The team approach is helpful to reduce the staff load.
