What makes the case discussed in this article even more disturbing is because it relates to minors who probably have no idea about Googles intrusion into their private information. This is a practice that other multi-national corporations are involved in on a global scale. For example in a separate article by the New York Times, Nordstrom another giant multi-national corporation is revealed to be tracking the smartphones of customers who enters their store by following the Wi-Fi signals from their smartphones. According to Stephanie and Quentin, the authors of the New York Times article, Nordstrom is not the only retailer who uses this technology to “gather data about in-store shoppers’ behavior and moods, using video surveillance and signals from their cellphones and apps to learn information as varied as their sex, how many minutes they spend in the candy aisle and how long they look at merchandise before buying it” (Stephanie and Quentin, 2013). These data collections in most cases go on without the knowledge or consent of the shoppers. Like Google in the previous article, corporations worldwide use this information to create a comprehensive and secretive profile for their consumers with the intent to use it to manipulate their spending
