Assault Weapon Ban Research

Decent Essays
There are many points in favor of the Assault Weapon Ban. The Second Amendment’s purpose is not to give every American a completely free rein on guns, there should be limitations. Continuing with this thought, some laws on guns are older than the Second Amendment itself; therefore new gun laws could improve our society. (Pro Con , 2016) Assault Weapons are not important for the use of sports or self defense. (Kellams, 2012) A ban like the Assault Weapon Ban would not hurt hunting and would not have any impact on the crime rate, because Assault Weapons have never improved the amount of crime in an area before. (Letters to the Editor, 2012) In conclusion, the argument in favor of the Assault Weapon Ban has many strong points

Society has been split into two over whether or not guns should be banned, but there needs to be a solution where both parties can be happy. Anti-gun advocates present reasoning why guns should be banned. McMahan’s main two arguments of why guns should be banned: one, guns in the community creates a more dangerous environment; and two, the police have less of a power to protect citizens when society has guns (Shafer-Landau, The Ethical Life (EL) 390). McMahan explains that communities are not going to be free of crimes with more people carrying around guns, because criminals will be more prepared, efficient, and quicker to grab and shoot their target (Shafer-Landau, EL 392-392). People with guns will be safer than people without guns, because they do not have a gun to protect themselves.…

The Second Amendment Gives People the Right to Bear Arms The United States has 270 million guns, the most in the world, consequently, this brings the question of gun control and the Second Amendment. ( Should More Gun Control Be Enacted ). The Second Amendment protects the right to individual gun ownership, banning the ownership of assault weapons would be unconstitutional. Most criminals who obtain guns do so illegally, thus putting a censorship on gun ownership would not prevent them from getting firearms. Gun control does not stop crime, the criminals that commit these crimes have no respect for the law.…

Six years after the 1997 handgun ban in Britain, the homicide rate reached an all time high of 18 deaths per every 100,000 people (Crimepreventionresearchcenter.org). If we ban the assault rifle we will not only keep the homicide rate the same but will likely increase it. “Assault rifles” should be legal, to prevent tyranny and protect the people from international invasion. Making these guns legal will reduce crime rate in America as it has done in many other countries. First let’s talk about the term “Assault Rifle”, because what most people don't understand is these weapons are different from the ones that our US military uses.…

In America, there is a growing perception that guns are: they are harmful, they kill, and they commit crimes, and so most guns should be banned. But, how can a gun kill or commit crimes; it is not a living thing, it is a tool. With the use of guns, America has grown to be a strong and independent country throughout history. The push to ban guns will only keep guns away from law abiding citizens since criminals, by nature, do not follow laws and respect the gun free zones. The banning of guns in America should end.…
