The goal of this research was to determine the risk of assault to physiotherapists and how to best manage violent incidences. Due to the close proximity with patients and the job to push patients to do things they may not want to do (i.e. get out of bed after surgery), physiotherapists are at a high risk for verbal or physical assault by patients while doing their job. The researchers looked into the idea of treating patients that have already shown a history of violence toward their healthcare providers and if treatment should be withheld due to a zero tolerance policy, but eventually decided this was a topic that must be discussed further within the field before a definitive answer is provided.
