The author talks about how that military culture creates an environment of fear for female service members. This "Rape-prone social context"(Wietz 165) makes women more susceptible to sexually charged assaults and this is shown in her statistics in the article. Weitz talks about statistics from military based sources and how they are not always the most accurate. The studies that are shown for these women in the military could actually be higher due to the fact that they are conducted by military personnel which could pose as intimidating to a woman in the study. There are also the factors that military studies are normally only based on the length of her military career (2-6 years) whereas civilian studies are normally based on their lifetime.
