These range of texts and methods can include: webpages, journals, articles, newspapers or many other types of resource. They provide insight into global issues in a professional way that, in theory, should be un-bias. These companies both have their positives and negatives in relation to the way they present there information and the type of information that they do present. The benefits that come from using news sources are that they are very easily accessible. There is a wide selection of news reporting companies that display the news in different formats. BBC News portrays the news online and on television while the guardian mainly uses newspapers and online articles, all of which are free to access. This is a very good feature as it means that anyone from any background can view the information allowing for a wider understanding and acknowledgement of global topics. The BBC wrote many different articles revolving around the Haiti earthquake in 2010. They are texts written by qualified professionals in the field so are very valuable and valid source of information and are frequently used as learning resources. Many texts and journals have been written in relation to seismic activity and the consequences that come from it. They also have many factors that make them both a very good source and a very bad source. The fact that academic journals are specially designed to talk about the specific topic means that they contain a lot of important information regarding the topic and are specially designed for it. This makes them a very valuable source but they can be deemed as invalid as they are written by credited academics, the things they write are based off of their own opinions. This means that the information they write could be wrong making it an invalid learning tool. Many academic journals that talk about earthquakes and seismic activity have been proven to be invalid as they talk about the authors own opinions on factors that cause

After reading the information provided for this journal, I think geographic literacy is very important. People should know where major countries are on a map, where major bodies of water are that cover a large portion of the Earth. Especially in times of crisis or when war is looming over our head, people should be able to locate quickly on a map where these countries are that are a threat. We as humans, and especially from such a large and powerful country like America, should be aware of all things going on in the world. We should be able to find things on a map, and it’s quite embarrassing to know that there are so many people who can’t even locate their own home country.…

In Harm de Blig’s book “Why Geography Matters More Than Ever,” he talks about how geography is more than discovery. It has a technical side when it comes to dealing with the maps and making them. It also studies humans, how they live, and their customs, not just the land they live on. In relation to the land humans live on, people live in places that can be dangerous with many different things such as, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, even animals, yet we learn to adapt to the places we live. He also goes on to say that the American population is the geographically most illiterate society of consequence on the planet.…
