Asmina's Definition

Decent Essays
The Client’s Definition of the Problem:

Asmina has been careful with disclosing her household situation as she stated that she ‘wants to be loyal to her family’. Asmina has expressed to Dr. Harrington feelings of disinterest towards Akoi and was ‘tearful’. She and her children also live in ‘constant fear’ of Filmon’s rages, and Filmon’s negative put downs and blame towards Asmina has affected her self-esteem as she commented that he was ‘right’. However, Asmina is beginning to question her situation if it is ‘fair’ that she and her children are experiencing this fear.

The Agency’s Definition of the Problem:

As Perinatal Social Worker at the Northern Health Hospital, I am concerned with Asmina’s bond and relationship with her newborn child.

Another misconception surrounding these patients is whether they are able to breastfeed the babies that are going through Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Nurses for Newborns is a community based program that was started in the early 1990’s by Sharon Rohrbach, RN, and Robin Kinney and currently serves 20 counties in Missouri and 6 counties in central Tennessee. Sharon was a nurse in the critical care nursery of a local hospital. Frequently the babies in her community were admitted as patients as soon as just a few days after going home after birth. Sharon attributed the hospital visits to the parents’ lack of knowledge about infant care in the first year of life and thought in home visits providing personalized parenting education would be the community’s missing link to increase support for these families. The program’s vision statement is that “the families of all babies will receive the…

Today, March 31, 2017, continued my second week in my rotation at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital. I became more familiar with the role of a child life specialist at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital, as well as observed and participated in patient interactions with great debriefing with Kristi. The child life service that I wish to highlight from today is urodynamics. I learned that urodynamic studies examine how well the bladder, urethra, and sphincters are able to store and release urine. Therefore, most urodynamic studies test the bladder’s ability to hold and empty urine.…
