Lions. Powerful animals; they are famously identified as ‘Kings of the Jungle’. Aslan, the One True ruler of Narnia, is often compared by Christian believers with their own lord and saviour; God, and out of the Holy Trinity, his son Jesus, known in the bible as ‘Lion of Judah’ (Revelations 5:5). This can be attested by the many references throughout the chronicles, such as in the fifth instalment with Shasta proclaiming, “knew none of the true stories about Aslan, the great Lion, the son of the Emperor-over-the-sea, the King above all High Kings in Narnia.” Across the land, Aslan draws people to his cause through his beliefs, teachings and leading, akin to Jesus gathering his followers and disciples. What’s more, is that both know of a traitor in their midst. While Aslan is betrayed by Edmund, so too is Jesus betrayed by his disciple Judas Iscariot. These betrayals are also the catalysts for each of them sacrificing their lives. One of the most worshipped miracles in the New Testament, one of the most profound, is of Jesus’ resurrection. Luke 24:1-8 is portrayed in the film when Susan and Lucy witness Aslan’s suffering, and then carefully treat his body afterwards. They stay with him until the coming dawn, when the stone alter cracks and his body disappears. It was then they realise Aslan had known what was to come, and that he’d sacrificed his life for the sins of a human child. His resurrection comes with a purpose; to defeat the White Witch once and for all. Aslan returns to his people and instils in them newfound faith, guiding the children of Adam and Eve on a path towards greatness, and to rid the world of evil. Jesus will always be there to show us children of Adam and Eve guidance, to lead us on paths that were meant for us. His selfless sacrifice was to grant us all with eternal life with him, whilst cleansing us all of our sins and human

Concluding with Narnia’s rebirth into new and fuller life, The Last Battle necessarily engages with themes of judgement, salvation, and eternity. C. S. Lewis closes his chronicle with Narnia perfectly realized in eternity, where all of its heroes rejoice in Aslan’s presence. Delving deep into theology, Lewis undergirds his events and imagery with powerfully coherent message about salvation. Lewis’s vision of the final judgement reflects a distinctly Catholic theology through its communication of God’s saving power, human will, Divine judgement. In the article “The Wild Life of Christian the Lion” and the poem “Wild Home” the authors both include the theme that wildlife is better left free then captured. I know that because the article explains that Christian has been sold and bought so many times and that his situation was grim. Another piece of evidence is that “in the wild lions prowl thousands of acres of grassland and forest. London was no place for Christian” that proves that lions have a wild side even if they have been tamed, as does the fact that the lion was tamed and he eventually lived in the wild with his friends but still remembered his tamed side when Ace and John returned to the camp and Christian ran up to them and hugged them. That was my evidence from the article…
