Depending on what part of Asia is being discussed, the role of Asian women in the economy and society varies. Southeast Asian women are very involved in the economy while South Asian women take little part in their economy. For example, South Asian women are more involved in household activities and that leads them to be unrecognized in the economy (Palileo, 1987, p. 298). On the other hand, Southeast Asian women are very heavily involved in making decisions and are well-known in their economy (Palileo, 1987, p. 298). Sons are generally expected to be educated and find a job, which will lead them to move to urban areas (Chung, Gupta, 2007, p. 763).
