This text type of the written task 1 is an opinion column that focuses on Asian stereotypes that is directed to Han, an Asian character in 2 Broke Girls. The show stereotype Asians by calling Han a person that is suppose to be “smart” and is portrayed as someone work-obsessed, short, socially awkward and unmanly. The task would talk about how all Asians are not the same as what is being stereotyped and how it is dangerous to put stereotyped on a mass media.

One of the main characters, Han Lee, is portrayed as what is defined as being “Asian” in America. He is defined as someone work-obsessed, short, socially awkward and has a feminine side. Aside from these, Han Lee is often made fun of due to the fact that he’s not smart, whereas Asians are supposed to be smart, to be a genius. Almost in every episode of the TV show, at least one character makes fun of Han regarding either his appearance or what he’s suppose to represent. During one time, Han’s co-workers are always surprised whenever he talks about women due to the fact that he is, in fact, too socially awkward to socialize or even talk to another gender. This character of being too introvert to fit in socially is taken from the stereotype that Asians are smart, and therefore they spent too much time reading or studying by themselves, to either find a love interest or a friend. In this case, Han is too work focused, spending his time in his diner to even have the time to go out. Han is being made as an example of what an Asian is. This could affect the way people would view Asian as a whole group. What if people actually think that every Asian is similar to Han? These stereotypes are “jokes”, but I believe these things are wrong. It is not right to make fun of another race just for the fun of other people. Stereotyping an entire race makes us ignore the fact that everybody is different. Stereotypes make us assume things about other people that may be untrue. We become prejudiced to another
