The most important factor is having money and prestige. “Korean immigrant parents are very strategic about school quality, namely selecting schools based on their reputation. The pursuit of elite schools was not limited to high schools but also extended to colleges and graduate schools” (Kim, p.236). In order to give their children the learning environment, many middle-class Korean American parents are willing to invest in housings that are in the best school districts, no matter where it is. (Kim, 2011). In the interview with Hanna, we learned that Hanna’s parents moved to New York from Midwest just to give Hanna the best experience in learning music. (Kim, 2011). Besides moving to different places to find the best education, there are a lot of private after-school programs that help students to be successful in education. For example, Hagwons provided different programs to Korean American parents that will help their children to get into Ivy League colleges and other magnet high schools.
