Positive school racial climates, are effective ways to shield Asian American students from being bullied because of their ethnicity. This article recommends that school-psychologists use the data from this study to promote awareness, diversity, acceptance and teach self-advocacy skills. It also encourages parents and school-administrators to advance social justice for Asian American students who have experienced school-bullying. This article relates to my field experience, because I work with Asian American students in the ICEP program at ASIA Inc. ICEP is a prevention program that is implemented at three Akron public schools, that have a high population of immigrant and refugee students. This article provided me with insight into how school-bullying could be impacting the students I work with. It also helped me to think critically about if the schools where ICEP operates, have positive or negative school-climates. This article has also helped me to reflect on my experiences with school-administrators at those schools. Are the ICEP students experiencing discrimination from their peers or school-administrators? Before reading this article, I never would of thought bullying prevention could be a social justice issue. I plan to work with the Asian American community in the future. This information has made me want to learn about the experiences of refugee and immigrant students in Akron Public Schools. The knowledge I have gained from this article has provided me with more insight than I had before, into how Asian American students may bullying and discrimination in public schools. I plan to use the information I received from this article to learn more about the bullying experiences of Asian American students and to advocate for them in the schools I work with.
