Present Owner/ Occupant: National Trust for Historic Preservation
Present Use: The National Trust for Historic Preservation allows the site to be open to the public since 1977 after the house was placed in historic preservation hands
Significance: “Built between 1738 and 1742, Drayton Hall is one of the finest examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in America. Through seven generations of Drayton ownership, this National Historic Landmark has remained in nearly original condition and is the only Ashley River plantation house to survive the Civil War intact.” (www.ccpl.org) Also was heavily influenced by Andrea Palladio from the …show more content…
e) Chimneys: two brick symmetrical chimneys on the far left and far right side of the slope on the plantation house
f) Openings:
a. Doorways and doors: There are two similar doors that are at the top of the staircase on both sides of the house which feature a pediment and a six-panel door
b. Windows and shutters: there are 18, six-over-six double-hung sash windows on the southwest side of the house, and 18, six-over-six, double-hung windows on the northeast, there are no shutters on any of the windows. On the northeast view, three windows on the second floor are designed as typical Palladian windows with pediments above them
g) Roof:
a. Shape, covering: w-shaped metal roof that can be recognized as hipped and gambrel with two symmetrical chimneys
b. Cornice, eaves: cornice is decorated with dentils like a typical Georgian style house would have and there is not gutter system visible from blueprints.
c. Dormers, cupolas, towers: There are no dormers, cupolas, or
