It had been a long day at the drug store, as Andrew went on his break, going down the aisle, he noticed the detective looking around nervously, Going toward him said, “Detective Green, May I help you?”
“Oh no, I just stopped in to get something to drink. How is the business?” Certain the detective was onto something, Andrew excused himself, saying he needed to get back to work. +++
A few nights later, Andrew arrived home from the drug store, Margaret met him at the door. “That boy called and will call back tonight. Do you know he didn’t seem nervous or anything when I told him we wanted him to come over for dinner?”
“Well, he has nothing to be nervous about since we are such nice people and will be kind to him,”

“Mom and Dad said I have no business being a father at my age. He said any seventeen years old who tried to be a dad was nuts and only fooling himself because at that age no one could be a decent father.” “What about Ashley and the baby?” Margaret asked again. “My Mom said she could adopt the baby. There are a lot of people who want to take infants. After that, she could lead a normal life, and no one would ever know. Later she could marry and have other children. They said she would be okay without me. If Ashley doesn’t want to do that Mom suggested an abortion, but Ashley refused. My parents agreed to pay for it, but she was too stubborn. It is not as though we were in love and talked about a future together. We only had sex once, that was not enough to get her pregnant, and besides, I am not sure the baby is mine,” Jeremy said, talking excessively. “It only takes having sex once to get a girl pregnant, and abortion is out of the question,” Margaret said.
Jeremy stared at Margaret and Andrew with disbelief all over his face. “How could she get pregnant with us having sex only once,” he whispered in a low voice as if he didn’t want them to hear

Most assume that the story’s central theme is the struggle of miscommunications between couples. However, there is another, more hidden theme located at the core of his story - the loss of innocence as one endures the trials of adulthood. While the woman in the story is discussing the possibility of an abortion with her partner, who is simultaneously nonchalant and encouraging regarding the procedure, she begins to see that despite his words, he is really encouraging the operation.…

“Hills like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway: A Literary Analysis & Minimalism Many of the most compelling works of fictional literature that are known today, are also some of the most descriptive pieces of writing. Writers of the 20th century like George Orwell, J.D. Salinger, and John Steinbeck, whose novels are widely prominent in American culture, used many adjectives to convey the emotions and opinions of the characters in their stories. During the 1950s however, Minimalism became a common writing style for many authors. The Minimalist movement called for simplicity and heavily relied on the use of symbols and actions to convey the story’s overall message. One of the most well-known minimalist short stories in American literature, is Ernest Hemingway’s “Hills like White…
