Ashford University Disadvantages

Decent Essays
Throughout my courses with Ashford University I have had both good and bad experiences when conducting research through the library database. The good experiences were those associated with the amount of knowledge that I have obtained over the courses by being forced to utilize the library. On the other hand there were many bad experiences that I have had to deal with as well. One instance was the fact that I was not prepared to utilize the large databases that has been available. Another downside to the library has been choosing the phrases to get the information needed for particular subject. Although I have had difficulties with obtaining the information, once acquired it has been useful in my education. There have been pros and cons

“A report from the National Science Foundation found that HBCUs produce the largest amount of African American students that go on to pursue PhD’s in the STEM areas. In fact, approximately 33% of African American students receiving their PhDs in STEM attained bachelor’s degrees from HBCUs. To put that in perspective, roughly 105 institutions are producing a third of all African Americans obtaining PhDs in STEM fields” (Gasman & Commodore). This statistic shows that even with fewer resources than PWI’s HBCU’s produce their fair share of driven students. However, no one likes to talk about this.…

An undergraduate student in Accounting will have different needs from a graduate student in Special Education, who will have even more unique needs from a professor in the Nursing program. The resources being accessed, the databases being used, the inquiries being made, and the books being read will vary for each user. If there is any competition locally, the Clarion Free Library can compete based on what materials, services, and databases are offered as the town’s public library. Other websites, search engines, and information found online can be viewed as competitive against the library’s services, if the user determines that they are finding information faster or in different methods in comparison to what the Carlson library can offer. Many students feel that they can find any needed information through Google and view the library as old fashioned and out of touch with the modern world.…

The college admissions process is becoming a time of stress for high school seniors. In addition to senior year school work, the countless deadlines, paperwork, applications, and college visits can create a hectic schedule for students applying to college. With an Early Decision (ED) application, students may apply to universities with a binding decision, and receive a response much sooner than regular decision applications. Tufts University, which has two separate ED application deadlines, should continue their ED program for future prospective students. Before looking at the benefits of applying to Tufts ED, one must analyze the differences between a regular decision application and an ED application.…

The question is how will a school librarian differentiate between selection and censorship? Working in an elementary school I see that a school librarian may find this really hard due to ensuring that the collection is part of the school mission and goals of the school and district. Asheim states, “The major characteristic which makes for the all-important difference seems to me to be this: that the selector’s approach is positive, while that of the censor is negative” (p. ). Keeping this in mind when school librarians look at selecting and building their collections one should evaluate the collection for the benefits it could have on the current collection and not finding only the negatives that the source has. I can see how a school librarian…

The historical and cultural references in Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno's "The Culture Industry" and Walter Benjamin's "The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility" are subtle but nonetheless fundamental. I began the research process by perusing through both writings to find references applicable to my papers. That is, I tried to find references that substantiated and bolstered the points I made in Midterm Paper 1. I found eight references that were suitable for further investigation: Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, Nicholas Malebranche, the Hays office, Donald Duck, Charlie Chaplin (especially A Woman of Paris), Franz Werfel, surrealism, and Mickey Mouse. After some thought and deliberation, I decided that Donald…
