Ashes, by Kathryn Laskey starts off with 13 year old Gabriella Schramm. Gaby fir short. She and her family live in 1932 Berlin. Her father teaches astronomy at the University and is good friends with Albert Einstein. Her mother teaches piano at home to local kids. Gaby’s older sister is scheduled to attend school in Vienna next year. Gaby loves to read. Anything she can get her hands on. Is looking forward to more poetry after summer vacation. Things are starting to charge. Not only in gaby’s family but in Germany as well.
