The dangers of the toxic mineral are well known in the country. However, there is not a comprehensive federal law addressing the issue of using asbestos in America although there are just few who would dispute the major health risks result from the exposure. The two issues are why they really don’t ban asbestos and why they don’t put a developed system for compensating asbestos victims.
Policies were adopted by the federal government in the US to promote asbestos-related safety. So far, there is not a universal ban on the toxic asbestos in the US and just 56 countries have banned the use of the toxic mineral.
What makes the situation unfortunate is that there is a limited federal legislation to ensure compensation for asbestos claimants for their sickness and loss of wages as the federal laws were created from the beginning to compensate the other types of claimants. There is a program created for coal miners in the US by BLBA (The Black Lung Benefits Act). Unfortunately, there isn’t a similar program for those who are sick because of the exposure to the toxic mineral.
