The author of the article argues that referees has too much influence on the results of the game. One of the facts supporting this statement is that referees while officiating baseball games are only 86% correct in calling strikes. Also, the author explains that there is no significant difference between officiating honestly and officiating badly on purpose due to betting purposes because either way, bad calls will be made during the game. The survey between referees was performed and some of them admitted that if they made a bad call for one team, they will try to make that up later while making again a bad call for another team. First of all, this is a fact that referees make mistakes because they need to make at least hundreds of calls during basketball games and that is understandable that not all of them going to be correct. The worst thing is that sometimes games or even championships are decided due to a bad call from the referee. Another reason is that every referee has a unique style of refereeing or different perception about certain rules and situations. However, this can be eliminated if instant review would be implemented and then referees would have an opportunity to watch the replay and discuss what is the best call for a particular situation. On the other hand, this is going to be a hard transition to the new system because the referees always been a part of the game, and some people might not like to see those changes.
