To begin with, the author shows how the Bundren family lived. The imagery given through Darl at the beginning of the story states, “The cotton house is of rough logs…. Square, with a broken roof set at a single pitch, it leans… a single broad window in two opposite walls” (Faulkner pg.1). The author uses this imagery to describe the house, making it easier to imagine how poorly the house looked and it gives out a clear image of how poor the family was. They did not have any money not even for their mother’s coffin which the family made Cash build. In Jane Taylor’s poem Poverty it shows an approximate similarity. In the poem she talks about how poorly a family lived where they lived in an “old cottage of clay” (Taylor line 1) that “was falling into decay” (Taylor line 3) meaning that it was falling apart. In As I Lay Dying Cora the author states in Cora’s section with Cora’s thoughts, “Addie Bundren dying alone, hiding her pride and her broken heart” (Faulkner pg.7). He shows how Addie always thought about herself before everyone else and how not even her family cares so much about her. In Eminem’s Cleaning Out My Closet song he gives out a different type of tone but he talks about his mother being a bad mother and when she dies she will not have anybody by her side. By stating “But you'll never see her-she won't even be at your funeral,” revealing that not even his daughter will be with her that she has not even met her maybe because she is too busy doing her own stuff. Eminem also state, “I’m sorry momma! I never meant to hurt!” revealing how bad he felt for everything hes done and how bad he feels that he wishes for his mother to die making him suffer his whole life. This showing the similarities between the song and the novel of their mother’s lonely
