The idea that the chapter titles are a form of self-identification holds true for the other characters we see with monikers. While this article would be much too lengthy for me to cover each of them in detail, suffice it to say, they all feel a disconnect between their actions and their self-image. Jon Connington is sick of pretending to be someone else. Barristan grows weary of watching kings and queens and wants to be bold again. She has only one chapter as a narrator, but as for a discussion of identity and chapter titles, it is an informative section for a number of reasons. One major revelation is that Melisandre was born Melony and sold to the Red Temple.
