1. A key concept that I experienced throughout this course was collaboration. According to “Reinvesting in Arts Education: Winning America 's Future Through Creative Schools,” establishing collaborative connections among different educators in the arts is a top priority in education reform to foster a “creativity-rich environment” in schools (vii). Collaboration is getting emphasized in education reform because it helps build more creative atmospheres that in turn, give students more opportunity to grow. In this course, collaboration has helped the facilitators of this course provide my classmates and I with a creativity-rich environment by allowing us to explore and share our different perspectives on varying subject matter and also has helped …show more content…

Now that the course is coming to a close, I am proud to have participated in this class because it exceeded my expectations due to the passionate teachers and the comprehensive and engaging lessons they taught in music, theatre, visual art, and dance. As a result, this course has greatly enriched my knowledge of arts, arts integration, and arts …show more content…
Analysis ("The Elements of Dance," May 6) and The Artist’s Toolkit (“The Artist’s Toolkit,” May 6), however there are two things that will continue to be invaluable as I move towards my professional career in programming - facilitation experience, as well as integrating arts into non-arts content. It was incredibly rewarding to plan and perform two facilitations throughout the semester. Through these facilitations, my partners and I had the opportunity to practice our public speaking, explore the impacts of reflection and collaboration, and immediately get feedback on what we did well and could improve on. In professional settings, presentations and facilitations are very common ways to share progress and, thanks to my practice in facilitations, I am prepared to succeed. The other important topic is arts integration. I learned through course readings such as “Reinvesting in Arts Education: Winning America 's Future Through Creative Schools” that the arts are powerful tools that increase retention rates in content that can be hard to absorb. By understanding the potential of arts integration and by applying arts integration through my facilitations, I have become more effective at learning new material and teaching it. All-in-all, I am pleased with the experiences this course and teachers have given me and this course’s content will

The Arts in its various forms (visual, performance and wellness) have long been believed to have transformational capabilities. The subject has always been lauded for the positive effects it has had and continues to have on those who have been actively exposed to it. Scholars, practitioners, researchers, educators and a host of other individuals would soon realize this positive impact and seek to implement it into the school curriculum to see if the same ‘transformational’ qualities could be applied to student achievement and development. Over two decades of research and studies have uncovered that the Arts do in fact have strong public support and has made considerable strides in the arena of student learning and encouraging a scholar’s attitudes…

My experience in the passport project has shaped my understanding of learning and creativity by helping me to have insight into myself and my learning, to learn to overcome challenges, to set goals to reach certain targets, to think ahead to the future, to research efficiently and to find people and artists that inspire me. All of these things have greatly benefited me over the term and a bit that we completed our project because of the impacts that it has on me in my everyday life. I am finding that I am becoming more organised and willing to learn on my own accord rather than by being told exactly what to do by a teacher because of this project because I feel like I have been trusted to work well and responsibly. I enjoy this style of learning immensely because it gives me the freedom to work in a way that suites me whilst helping to shape my understanding of learning and creativity. Over the duration of our project, I have gradually gained more of an insight into myself and my learning.…

In addition, learning through cultural diversity will be enhanced by designing new curriculum, instruction and assessment to increase student achievement. Enhancing the development of new teachers through coaching programs is also another way to support positive social change in my educational setting. The success or failure of a coaching program hinges on the coach’s ability to communicate clearly, build relationships, and support fellow teachers (Knight, 2008). I believe all the actual and future learning in this course may help me support positive social change in my community by establishing communications with parents, address new issues that are affecting student learning, and explain the purpose of the visit. According to Doctor (2014), educator must let the community know the purpose of engaging the community and must have clarity about its own purpose, goals and reasons to make the positive social change.…

As I worked with them, I was able to show them how open and approachable I am. This facilitated our relationships, which is important because without a solid foundation, I would not be able to connect with the students and help them grow. I also discovered my vocation when working with struggling students.…
