The essay written by S.I. Hayakawa “What It Means to Be Creative” went over many aspects that are seen in Van Gogh. Van Gogh was a famous painter from about 1888 to current, seeing as his paintings are still sought after to this very day. He was also famous for cutting off his own ear. Through his letters to his brother Theo he has given us a look into his life, in addition we see the pain and suffering, as well as the joy he went through from day to day. In the Hayakawa essay he named numerous aspects of a creator which you will see Van Gogh follows a number of these examples.…
This production was built on a strong foundation of classical ballet technique and repertoire but heavily infused with pop and rock style. The ballet technique was not hidden or shied away from. I was impressed by the successful integration of the classical style into the rock and roll type theme. The ballet vocabulary ranged from basic practices of turnout, épaulment, posture and pointe work…
For this submission I decided to choose to learn more about the dance of Ballet. I’m not really a big dance person, but the dance of ballet has always intrigued me because of how beautiful and elegant it is. Ballet originated in Renaissance Italy. It started out as a dance used at balls and social gatherings.…
In Oliver Sacks’ work, An Anthropologist on Mars, Sacks delves into the increasingly difficult task of defining creativity, ultimately illustrating that successful adaptation of the brain toward creativity depends on not only physical brain plasticity, but also the internal and external motivations of the victim, asserting that a creative mind holds the key for successful processing and acceptance of loss. Brain plasticity, as defined by the Society of Neuroscience, “refers to the extraordinary ability of the brain to modify its own structure and function following changes within the body or in the external environment” (Frostig). This sort of adaptation lies at the heart of Sacks’ work. Sacks emphasizes this remarkable ability of the brain…
The segment written by S.I. Hayakawa “What It Means to Be Creative” went over countless aspects of being a creator that are witnessed in Van Gogh’s life. Van Gogh “was born in Groot-Zondert, Holland on March 30, 1853” (Impact, the Net.). He had many jobs before becoming an artist, which included a clerk, art salesman, and preacher. From around 1888 to current, since his paintings are sought after to this day Vincent Van Gogh is considered one of the famous painters of his time. He only sold one painting when he was alive, but today his paintings are famous.…
Design principles not only put order in artist work, but also in the lives of everyday people as well. Balance is probably the principle that most people want in the lives. Everyone wants to strive for a symmetric (equal on all sides) type of life. Balance helps to make sure a person doesn’t take on too much, as in a job, and have their home life suffer because they are being pulled to responsibility more than the other. Another principle we like to keep in order throughout of lives is variety and unity.…
Ballet is an artform that, like any other, takes time to perfect. The sooner you start to work on your trade and realize the passion you have for it, the sooner that you are able to strive to perfect and chisel away at it. Most professional dancers start at a very young age, anywhere from three on. Because there are so many less men compared to women, men can usually get away with starting at a later age, say 12 to 14 or even a couple years more. I started, from scratch, when I was 18 years old, or roughly five and a half years ago.…
Wayne Dyer once said that “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” This was a key concept in Viktor E. Frankl’s Man ’s Search for Meaning.…
Throughout the being this class I have learned about many artists, their specific genres, and how they contributed to the art society as a whole. Some of the major artists that have made a space in my mind, that I had no knowledge of knowing before are Marcel Duchamp, Jason Pollack, Marina Abramović, and Julian Beveer. These artist are mentioned in the textbook relating them to the type of artwork they do. Nevertheless, I have pick chapters 4.5 Art and Illusion and 4.7 Art and War. Just with the title Art and Illusion made me excited to want to read and learn about the chapter.…
In 1994, performer Darryl Yeager saw the need for another company in Salt Lake City, Utah to allow the large group of unemployed talents a chance at beginning to work in their field. Thus he founded Odyssey Dance Theatre. He wanted to focus on having dance works that were performed for general audience instead of for people who focus on dance as an elite form. After discovery of this need, Yeager began the choreographic work “Shut Up and Dance” to allow people of all ages and ethnicities to be entertained by a vibrant and energetic mash up of various styles of dance. Odyssey Dance Theatre is made up of 26 talented and passionate artists, who are under the direction of Derryl Yeager.…
Expressive theory of art, while being able to include certain artwork and exclude non-artwork that was problematic for formalism, has difficulties of its own. That is, there seems to be something wrong with arguing that simply because an artist has not felt the emotions expressed in their work their creation is not art. This notion could discount many great creations. For example, suppose there was the most beautiful painting; formally it is perfect, the colours, shape and brush stroke is technically brilliant. Art critics all over the world write about how amazing it is that this artist has captured sadness so exquisitely.…
Nurturing Creativity in Education, published to the European Journal of Education on September 1, 2014, was written by Paul Collard and Janet Looney. The authors aimed this article at informing their readers in understanding that creativity is an essential factor for education. Most people have heard the word “creativity” and have a basic understanding of what the word means, but the article gives us a clearer viewpoint on the subject of creativity. It states that “creativity is widely acknowledged as vital for social and economic innovation and development as well as for individual well-being” (Collard & Looney, 2014. p. 1).…
Nowadays, the film industry has become one of the most lucrative businesses. Production companies tend to create the perfect strategies to maximize profit while minimizing expenses; as in result, sometimes creativity is left behind if the cost is too high. Making a sequel of a successful movie often times seems to be the right choice in terms of investments, not only because the public has previous knowledge of the original film; therefore a reintroduction of the plot is not necessary, also the supply such as movie sets, wardrobe and props used in previous movies can be recycled. Every so often sequels are necessary, like Lord of the Rings, based on three books, where the story would be too long if presented in only one motion picture.…
Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation.…
Creative arts can be said to be an expression of how people feel. Be it visual, or performance art, it is always a form in which people express their feelings, thoughts and especially their perception about different aspects of the world in general. National development implies the development of a whole nation and can be defined as defined as the all-around and balanced development of different aspects of the nation namely; political, economic, social, cultural, scientific and material. (Bawa, 2017). One would ask what the correlation between these two topics are.…
