Othello stands in front of the Duke and many others to confess his love for Desdemona and wound up winning everyone's permission. In act one scene three Othello says “And heaven defend your good souls/ that you think I will your serious and great business scants/ (for) she is with me.” When Othello uses soul in his statement he means he is very thankful that everyone agreed that he is worthy of Desdemona and he will always be a devoted husband to her. When he uses soul in this sentence he explains how everyone makes him spiritually happy for providing blessings to him. Honestly I think Duke and many others think he is not worthy of Desdemona because he is a black older Moor who does not fit the European society. Also, when Othello returns from fighting with the Turks he is very eager and happy to see his lovely wife waiting for him. In act two scene one Othello says to his wife “It gives me wonders great as my content/ to see you here before me. O my soul's joy!” Othello explains he thought about his wife while he’s away and seeing his wife again made him more content than ever. When he use soul in this context he explains the action he takes to show his wife the love and appreciation he has for her. However things began to change when Iago brings false attention to Othello that his wife is committing adultery with Cassio one of his noblemen that always stayed loyal to Othello until he has aggressively attacked Montanao for all the wrong reasons. This makes Othello so paranoid and very depressed he lashes his anger out to Desdemona and others on what he feels from this quote betrayal. In act five scene two Othello says “It is the cause, It is the cause, my soul.” In this scene this is the final moment he is about to kill his wife from the pain and anger he is carrying
