Personal Narrative: My Experience With Artificial Intelligence

For me life was always easy. I grew up in a well off family with my mom, dad, and twin younger brother and sister. I always felt I was different from the children my age. Never outgoing, not talking, just observing, observing everything around me. Looking for the interesting things in life.

I never truly understood why I was different. My mom said I was an old soul who has lived countless lives, so only the new things in life would interest me. I guess I took this statement to heart, because it was what drove me to find something in this world that I could call new.

I wanted to invent, discover the impossible. The world around me changed with this resolution. My brother and sister both saw me with awe when I told them my motivation. They probably thought I was trying to become rich and famous through my findings. My parents were

My mind was full of euphoria for this amazing event which just occurred. Creating something new was my motivation and only goal in life and I had just succeeded. I felt the craving for discovering more and challenging the impossible well up inside me.

I drop everything I was doing that day and stayed home to observe the creation of the artificial intelligence. The process of it modifying its code stops after a couple hours, as it then starts to compile its new code to run with my old code to modify it in real time. The AI then starts to search through my computer looking at my pictures, documents, files, programs, and everything else available. I see this will take a long time and decide to watch some tv to pass the time. After a few hours I start to see flashing lights coming from the computer. I get up and walk over to see a message on my screen.

Hello, Creaor Ethan.
“Hello, creator Ethan” the popup says as I read out loud. I grew excited and then a new message appeared.

Creator Ethan if you would please plug in the speaker

I remember when the world was a better place. I may only be eleven years old, but the latest breakthrough in technology, the one that doomed mankind, only happened three years ago. That's when Harvard University developed a fully-functional AI robot. It was only so long until they took over jobs, and unemployment became an issue for the human race. The thing is, everyone thinks that they can just find another job, and everything will be normal again.…

I had a dear friend reach out to me who was also a divorced Mormon. She wrestled with herself and who she wanted to be. As we talked, we talked much about who she used to be and how much she loved that woman. She wondered why she couldn’t call that woman back to the place she is now and was frustrated in the place she currently was. I started to reflect on my journey.…

I drove my first BMW when I was 20 years old; my boss at the time let me drive his E39 530i home. It was the most amazing thing I had ever drove and decided right then I must have a BMW once I made enough money to afford one. It was fast (to me), handled like it was on rails, quiet, comfortable, and everything a person who loves to drive could really ask for at the time; truly a “the ultimate driving…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

Intro In the article “Moving up from the Working Class” Morris and Grimes argue that “early socialization within a class culture has deep and abiding effects”. I would agree with this statement, because as I have always grown up in the working class and I am still in it today. I am trying my best to move up and out of the working class, but it is a very hard thing to do because I still have the mentality of being in the working class. This means I still have all my old habits of buying things super cheap and not spending much money on myself.…

A Thousand Experiences Throughout life, individuals face different obstacles and struggles; my obstacle was my tendency to be shy. For example, when I was faced with social pressures like speaking in front of a class for a presentation, or meeting new people, I would be a nervous wreck. My palms would sweat, my voice would tremble, and it took all the strength I could muster to overcome my irrational fears. I only had a small, albeit close knit group of friends due to my introverted ways.…

Do you remember when you were a little kid and you had to climb on your counter-top to reach a cabinet? I remember it as if it was yesterday, maybe because it really was. I have always lived by the motto “Heart over height” in every aspect of life, and in every endeavor I encounter.…

I was eight and in California visiting with my vegetarian grandparents. We were being seated in a vegan restaurant for a late lunch.
