Artifice In the excerpt “Empire of Illusion” by Chris Hedges argues that “ the most essential skill … is artifice.” After reading the passage, I agree with Chris Hedges because in Political Theater and Consumer culture that is the most popular skill. Artifice is important because people use this skill to confuse others that do not know what is going on. People with this skill cause problem because they are tricking people into believing stuff that is not true. Others can say that Artifice is not important it is a bad skill that people use to take advantage on others. I think this is the biggest skill because that is the biggest skill and it is the only way people will listen and find it interesting. I think this is the most popular mindset

In the article is states “ those who haven’t mastered the art of entertainment, …. They become unreal.” People that are involved in Political Theater need to have this skill because people who don’t have it are nonexistent. I think what this is trying to say is that people who don’t have this skill will be forgotten, or no one will pay attention to them. People will take advantage of this skill because they will use it and people won’t understand what is going on. Like it says in the passage, “ The reality of the narrative is irrelevant.” It won’t make sense because it will be contradicting. This is important because the government uses this all the time. People don’t notice it because it look real. The government does this so there secrets won’t get out there.
In conclusion, those who are good with the skill will succeed and those who aren’t will be forgotten. It seem like without this skill you are nothing. The ones who use this skill can control others. Nevertheless the skill is useful and plays an important role in political theater. A lot of people that don’t know what artifice is won’t know the benefit of and the advantages of it.
