Throughout high school I have been a part of the Interact Club. The main Purpose of the Interact Club is to volunteer within the community we live in. While being in the Interact Club, I have participated in the Luncheon for foster children in Social Services for three years; likewise, annually we participated in the Breast Cancer walk at Jones beach. Furthermore, with the Interact Club we even volunteered at a local animal shelter, Bobbi and the Stray, as well as writing Holiday cards to soldiers on deployment. Interact Club has taught me the value of giving back and appreciating the community we live

I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…

The advisor, Ms. Corrales, would always pick an issue in society for each meeting and provide us with the best tools to go about handling the issue. During my sophomore year, she invited me to the NJ Regional Conference with our executive board.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Through this club I was able to serve as a mentor for various middle school students. Every Friday I would go to a middle school classroom and spend breakfast with them. During this time I would play games with them or talk to them about anything they wanted guidance with. The really cool thing about this program was that I didn't have to go a middle school, but because my school also has a middle school level. I was able to build relationships with students I see around…

I have always known that I wanted to serve in the justice system; the concept has constantly been reaffirmed in my mind as new life experiences continue to lead me in that direction. The problem with that particular direction is that it has several paths to take, and deciding which path to take takes a lot of time and consideration in order to make the best choice. Over time, I have realized that my individual strengths and personality are best suited to succeed in the legal field rather than the political or law enforcement areas of the justice system. One of my first experiences that led me to this conclusion was my involvement in Big Brothers Big Sisters. As a Big Sister, I learned that there are many children in the world that need an…

I have been a part of helping many organizations such as Teen Feed, Tent City, Operation Christmas Child, Heifer Project International, Hopelink, Seattle’s Children Hospital, and local food banks. Through Teen Feed and Tent City I have assisted in preparing and serving meals to those in need throughout the local area. With the help of some of my friends, we made fleece tie blankets that were then donated to Seattle’s Children Hospital. Additionally, to give back to the community, I have participated in multiple food and school supplies drives to collect items that were donated to Hopelink and local food banks. On a more global scale, through Operation Christmas Child I had the opportunity to pack shoeboxes with items for children that were shipped all over the world.…

After I have completed my education, I plan on joining the rotary club to help spread my passion for both community and friendship. I want to collaborate with minds from all over the world to make my community a better place. I can do so by hosting an exchange student or by helping students in my community fundraise money for their own youth exchange trip. Hosting an exchange student will let that student make new ideas to take back and spread within their own community. Helping students in my community fund their own trip will let them experience the world in a new perspective and bring home ideas from other cultures.…

Prior to my involvement with S.O.L, I hardly engaged in community service events because I was too shy to volunteer alone. Many of my friends had similar issues, they want to help the community but they didn’t know how to or they were too afraid to do it alone. I believed that S.O.L was the perfect vehicle to get my friends as well as myself involved in community events. Last year S.O.L participated in over six community service events as a group, seeing my friends and members volunteer together in the community made me very proud. My members as well as my friends became productive and involved community members and soon they were proposing the events the club should do next.…

In manifold years, the African American community has suffered harshly from institutional racism. As Blacks were forced into becoming chattel property for Whites, they were also dehumanized from their identity. Torture was also included in oppressing blacks as they planted fear into the mindset of African Americans that they cannot even love their own skin color. Lack of opportunities such as educationally, economically, and politically have been the main factors that our community lacks for "success” due from oppression. Philanthropy is a way for our Black Leaders to restore the lack of resources such as meals, housing, educational opportunities, and guidance in the communities.…

Throughout my high school career there has been many opportunities to give back to our community through all the organizations it presents us as high school students. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a young women in my church we are encouraged to do eight, ten hour projects that demonstrate community service and help you as an individual expand your knowledge. During the summer of my sophomore and junior year I had the opportunity to collect school supplies for a boy and a girl in each grade at the Corvallis primary school. It was an amazing experience to know that the supplies were helping such innocent kids who needed them. Although I did not know who the supplies went to, it sure expanded my knowledge on just how much impact each of us can have on our community.…

Throughout my high school career, I have participated in a number of activities that focused on benefiting the students and community around me. Each activity provided a unique experience that I still carry with me and learn from to this day. As a Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN) representative, I have traveled to Massachusetts to discuss racial issues in America with hundreds of other MSAN students across the country. Our goal was to come up with solutions to resolve some of the issues we face in our hometowns.…
