In a research study conducted on eight subjects, clinicians found that after twelve sessions the subjects performed much better overall. However, the results of the therapy sessions revealed that seventy-five percent of the eight subjects performed much better after receiving therapy that focused on the phonological aspect of anomia. On the other hand, fifty percent of the subjects showed improvement in the semantically targeted aspects of anomia. It can be inferred from these results which therapy method was the most successful and beneficial to patients (in this particular study). In almost all real-world situations, rhetoric is used to convince and manipulate the opinions of the target audience. Whether the objective is to create an emotional connection with the audience or create trust with a speaker or writer, rhetoric is used in almost all of these situations. In “Nickel and Dimmed” by Barbara Ehrenreich, Ehrenreich employs rhetoric to create logic and reasoning, to create an emotional connection with the audience, and to build trust with the audience in order to support the claim that it is basically impossible to live off of minimum wage. In Mark Twain's piece, Advice to Youth, Twain attempts to to inform the youth on how to act by using humor rather than giving a informal lecture. He accomplishes this by playing fun at the methods most parents use to shape their kids and prepare them for later in life. He satirizes parent’s expectations versus how children actually act, even with guidance and wisdom. Through these strategies, the reader can observe sarcasm and irony, these of which are the two main supporting factors of Twain’s claims.
