Amos Singletary, a Massachusetts representative, is against the ratification (Doc1). He worries that “[T]hey will swallow up all us little folks (Doc1)...” He is very fearful that the rich and powerful will drown out the regular citizens. Singletary is from Massachusetts, a state which has seen the rights of the small farmers like Daniel Shays overpowered by taxes by those in the state government; he fears the same would happen at a national level if we approve the new Constitution. Look at the [sad] faces of our working people...without employment...Listen to the insults that are offered to the American name….(Doc 3)” This displays that the newspaper thinks that the current Constitution was made to keep the common folk down and gain no power. The newspaper is from Massachusetts, which is from a state that has been the center of issues and the main view from the outside world of America; dislikes how the current constitution does not support the common folk gain power or money which corroborates in Shay’s rebellion.
