A phobia, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “an exaggerated, usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation. It may be hard for the afflicted to sufficiently determine or communicate the source of this fear, but it exists”. In the past years a specific phobia had spread, through the western countries and its known as Islamophobia.
The leading cause for Islamophobia is usually misinformation or total lack of information based on the religion. Unfortunately, people who have Islamophobia, are not likely to be willing to educate themselves about their fears or spend time around any Islamic people. I think that people see Islam in this way because of the way that the media shows it and when they see some bad Muslims.
In the past few days, I saw a report on a news channel. The report was saying that how the media this days plays a major role in spreading Islamophobia; by their news for example: if one Muslim do something wrong all the media will spread the news and exaggerate it and keep on repeating it until all the people sees it. As a result of that they create an image in their minds that all Muslims are terrorists, Islam is about terrorism. However, on the other hand, if a person from any other religion do the same bad thing that the Muslim did media will ignore the story and will not spread it among the people the same way they did when it’s a Muslim.
