Would you try the no-shower challenge? That is the question that author Katie Maguire asked her readers in the article, “3 Things That Happen When You Stop Showing For A Month”. In this article, Maguire dives into the positive outcomes of not showering for an entire month. She took the results from two journalists James Hamblin and Julia Scott, and compiled a list of three changes their body underwent while going without a shower for 30 days. While reading this article, I was very critical of the content, as well as the background of the author and the audience at which this was aimed at. The author of “3 Things That Happen When You Stop Showing For A Month”, Katie Maguire got her Bachelor of Science and Public Relations degree at Boston University from 2009 to 2013. While attending this university, she interned at many business usually acting as the social media consultant or doing journalism work. During her time in college, she received five intern positions, including one when she was studying abroad in Ireland. Since graduating, she has worked in Public Relations, as well as writing for Fitness Magazine and Well + Good, where she is currently working. The audience was very easy to analyze knowing all of Maguire’s work experience. With all of her internships and job involvement being in the beauty and health industry, I knew that her audience would include those concerned with their health.
