As a professional and/or seasoned gambler, you should be risking a little money every now and again to experiment with new gambling ideas and theories. The experiments featured here are asking if contrarian betting is worth the risk.

The Contrarian Betting Soccer Experiment

In this experiment, bets were placed against the favorite. To make it fair as fair as possible, considering the limited scope of the test, bets were placed as “Win Or No Bet.” This means

Yet again, we have to conclude that there is some validity to contrarian betting, but that it is a very murky water to explore. After all, one would have expected very little from betting on the second favorites since all the other horses may have won, as opposed to the soccer experiment where either one wins or the other does.

Conclusion

If you want to expand, add to, or improve your current betting system, then it is well worth taking a look at contrarian betting. If you run your own experiments and log the probability effecters, then you may be better able to pick contrarian bets that help you win more than you lose. In the Protagoras's Wager, I believe that Protagoras's pupil Eulathus won the case. My reasoning for that would be that Eulathus backfired toward the argument with his own masters tactful speaking skills as follows " No sir you have it backwards. Sometimes, in sports or in life in general, there are favorites and underdogs. There is a general consensus that the favorite team or player will win but sometimes it`s the underdog that wins and receives all the honor related with that win. This is very similar to what I read about Seabiscuit and what I watched in the video of Jason McElwain. Some people have the ability to transcend their underdog status (ie. Red from Seabiscuit and Jason) and create something very special.…

Many of the horses in this year’s Kentucky Derby were never sure things to make the field and so the focus of their three year old campaigns has been on qualifying for the run for the roses. But a few horses came off of well regarded two year old campaigns and their confident trainers took their time, picked their spots, and now hope to have a fresh horse rounding into form at just the right time. The third race after a horse gets a few months of rest is often seen as their best effort. This isn’t always the case, as some horses run great fresh, but generally speaking the first race back is not the best, and the third race back is the sweet spot after a horse has dusted off the cobwebs, but before it starts to wear down.…

Journal Two One important aspect in the book Mistakes Were Made but not by me is irrevocability. I conclude that irrevocability is an important aspect of the book because it explains dissonance in the book which is when two of your beliefs collide and put you into a state of mental discomfort. Irrevocability is when you have made a decision that is irreversible, this supports the theory of dissonance because when you make a poor decision you try to release that tension in your thoughts and believe that your decision was the best practicable. The authors add important facts about irrevocability, they state that specific scientific evidence collected from an experiment that studied gamblers at a racetrack was used to explain the power of…
