Arthur's Positive And Negative Effects On Children

Decent Essays
The second show I watched was Arthur. This show growing up was one of my favorites and as a child there was an Arthur book I absolutely loved and would have my mother read to me all the time. The particular episode I watched included Francine and Buster thinking they are too good for the soccer team they are on so they switch to a better team in hopes for some better competition. Only to find that the harder team is much more time consuming and taking away from other things they enjoy so they go back to there first team. And the second described a time in which one of D.W’s friends at school kept telling lies to get out of another lie and she realized it was never going to end well so she ended up confessing to her mistakes. Arthur is not like The Magic School Bus in the educational aspect of how things work and science but more of the real life issues and troubles that we face day to day and the mistakes we make but learn from. …show more content…
Sometimes the way the characters treat each other can be a little disrespectful but often times as humans fighting with siblings and getting frustrated with parents is completely normal so I don’t feel that Arthur is a negative show and if a child is to watch they could gain alot from

After his son’s death, James goes to visit Arthur’s African Boys Club. As he arrived, everyone in the room stopped and stared in silence. He walks over to the pictures on the wall, admires them, then awkwardly tells a peer of Arthur that he is his father. Based on his expression, we can tell that he has never truly interacted with a person of color.…

It seems like TLC, the station that produces the show, is only interested in exploiting the Gosselin children and treating them as commodities. They claim already to have seen signs of adverse effects and resentment among the children at the constant cameras zooming in on their every move. Every birthday party or outing for the children is organized by a production company with their eyes on the highest ratings. Kate, it seems, is only interested in her newfound fame, and not so much as in her children. Then their divorce caught a lot of media attention and the children were affected by it the most.…

In “TV’s Negative Influence on Kids Reaffirmed” by Jeffrey M. McCall, he warns parents that too much television is bad for your kids. McCall says that recent studies confirm that kids who are saturated with television are damaged in many ways. McCall also states that kids who absorb a lot of media whether it be television, video games, or the internet are less likely to do well in school, less well-adjusted socially, and more likely to be overweight than kids who are low users of media. A separate study at the University of North Carolina found 12- to 14-year olds who watched television with high sexual content were twice as likely to have intercourse by age sixteen. McCall argues that television is a cultural legitimizer for kids and teen…

Introduction: Everyone has his or her own opinion on tending too and teaching of children. It is important to understand and to know the reasons why a child behaves in the manner that they do. Sigmund Freud the father of psychology known for his revolutionary ideas in the Western world and his colleagues Piaget, Erikson, Skinner and Vygotsky also have individual philosophies in the assessment of a child’s growth. Considering the different viewpoints of these psychology theorists will help the progress of our own children knowing and understanding cognitive child development.…

The beginning of Chapter 3 lays out the three main factors that are associated with the relationship between exceptional parents and the classroom. These parents over the years have provided many beneficial changes because they would advocate for their children 's’ disabilities. Educators also seek parental involvement because studies show that a student’s grades tend to improve when the parents are actively involved with helping their student academically at home. The positive results that come from both statements above links to the judicial mandates that require parents to be informed and involved with their student’s education. The goal once again is to make sure these students have as much resources as possible to help them learn the curriculum.…

Ever since I can remember, there were always sitcoms on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and ABC Family that portrayed high school students as being adults who were mature for their ages and completely independent of their parents. Some of my favorite examples are Kim Possible, That’s So Raven, House of Anubis, and Degrassi—all of which have the basic story line of teens trying to find their places in the world. They have similar character designs, in that each person is rarely subjected to their parents’ rules, and they look much older than suggested. Between six and thirteen years old, I was convinced that I would be as cool as the characters in the shows throughout my high school career.…

My favorite show is Bob’s Burgers it has the comedy that is needed on a daily that will make you laugh at unusual and awkward family situations that only the Belchers go through . The main characters are Bob-the dad , Linda-the mom , Tina-the older sister , Gene - the brother , and Louise - the little sister. Their crazy family go through hilarious events that don't make sense in a normal family but ends in a moral of what happen which I love. Bob, Linda ,and the kids run a family restaurant called Bob’s Burgers and live in a house right above it so work and home are in the same place. Bob and Linda are a different kind of parents when it comes to approaching their kids about things.…

The term “Tokenism” is maybe something the average person has never heard of. Tokenism is defined as “ the policy and practice of making a perfunctory gesture towards the inclusion of members of minority groups” If you look at any television show you watch or even movie for the most part you will always find at least one use of tokenism. There 's a token black guy who either acts like he is from what people have deemed the ghetto or he is soulful and acts like he’s from the south. There 's sometimes a token gay character that is always portrayed as a flamboyant white male with a high pitched voice and a love for fashion. The less common token is the love interest token which is the girl that the awkward main character has loved since forever but she has herself wrapped around some other guys finger.…

Gender roles in the media influence society greatly. Media has the ability to portray genders in ways that they really do not act in real life and American society. Even with reality shows, individuals in the shows put on an act in a way to persuade the audience’s mind to keep them watching. For this assignment I chose to watch two different shows that were on ABC Family. I was quick to learn that the “family channel” is not so much for the family.…

Television can have long lasting and detrimental effects on children and young adults. While entertaining, watching T.V. can cause negative effects on physical and cognitive health, decreasing children’s amount of physical activity and sometimes impede brain development. Behaviorally, some television shows promote aggressive behavior in children and reinforce stereotypes. When looking into television shows to observe, I decided to select T.V. shows I had watched when I was a child.…

Children literature includes books, magazines, stories and poems that children enjoy. It can be traced to stories and songs which were part of the oral tradition that adults shared with their children before the advent of publication. The development of children literature is difficult to trace. However, from the 15th century AD, a large volume of literature, often with a religious or moral message, has been targeted specifically at children. Many of the children books acknowledged today as classics can trace their origins to the late 19th and early 20th centuries which become known as the Golden Age of children literature.…

The impact of raising children in today 's society is very important. Children will mimic almost everything they see and grow up thinking that behavior they learned is acceptable. Being a child is the hardest part of a person’s life because this the age where a child is most susceptible to insecurities and peer pressure. Our ideas about raising children impact American society because the children are the future of society. If many children were being taught to be merciless and money driven, what type of society would we be?…
