Arthur Meighen was one of the most honed orators and accomplished debaters to speak in the House of Commons. As Cabinet Minister under Prime Minster Sir Robert Borden, his impregnable logic and reasoning gave way to the drafting of important legislation such as the 1914 Conscription act. However, while his intelligence was undeniable, Meighen lacked vital leadership qualities such as charm, compassion, luck, and ability to rally loyal supporters. Meighen’s role as Prime Minster brief and disheartening, aggregating to a total of nine months in Parliament over two occasions.
