Arthur Holmes was a geologist. He was born on January 14, 1809 and he died on September 20, 1965. He married twice once to a Margaret Howe of Gateshead and the second time to a Doris L. Reynolds. Holmes became interested in earth science at Gateshead High School. He had no children.
