Arterial blood gas (ABG) and electrolytes analysis is an important test to monitor acid-base balance and the assessment of gas exchange. Various factors can affect the accuracy of the results. A study showed that; the ABG’s results changes occurs when the analysis is delayed. They suggested storing the blood on bag of ice to minimize changes. According to The American Association for Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guideline the blood sample should be analyzed in 10-15 minutes at room temperature and 1 hour at ice bag. Dagleish MP. On the other hand there was no significant changes of PaO2 after 60 minutes at 0 C. According to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute Guideline body temperature can also affect the accuracy of the results whereas febrile or hypothermia patients may have an accurate results. (2004) Investigate the Effects of syringe material and temperature and duration of storage on the stability of equine arterial blood gas variables by measuring the PaO2, PaCO2 and PH in 10, 60 and 120 minutes in room temperature and iced water and found that there is no significant change in the PaO2 value when the analysis of the sample perform within 10 minute post-sampling. The research also suggest that the PaCO2 value were not affected by the temperature nor time of storage if the analysis performed before 120 min, the examination showed that by 120 minutes post-sampling the mean arterial carbon dioxide value were significantly lower than those at 10 and 60 minutes. (2004) Also investigate the effects of temperature and duration of storage on the PH and found that the PH were not significantly affected by within 120 minute when the sample stored in iced water, whereas when the sample stored at room temperature the PH value significantly reduced with
