Artemis is the goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the environment. Artemis was the daughter of Leto and Zeus. She was also the twin sister of Apollo. She was born on an island called Ortygia after her mother, Leto found shelter there after hunted by Hera, the unlawful wife of Zeus. As soon as Artemis was born, she helped her mother (Leto) gave birth to her twin brother, Apollo. Because she did this, she became the goddess of childbirth and labour. Then, for her birthday she asked her father to grant her six wishes-To be able to live life without love,to be able to be a lifelong single person and never marry, a bow and arrow with perfect aim, hunting dogs to help her hunt, stags to lead her chariot, and 80 virgin nymphs to be her hunting companions. …show more content…
She then devoted herself to hunting and nature, rejecting love. She was the protector of nature and hunt, meaning that all the animals were protected by her. Artemis was very protective of the animals with her. Once King Agamemnon (The son of King Atreus) killed one of Artemis’s sacred stags and then boasted to her that he was a “superior” hunter. In anger, while Agamemnon and his forces were sailing to Troy for the Trojan War, Artemis had the ships unable to move and so they were stuck in the middle of the sea with no wind. Artemis then demanded that Agamemnon had sacrifice his daughter in order for her to restore the wind so the boat could move. At the end, Artemis restored the wind and the boat, once again was on the way to the Trojan War. Artemis also protected agriculture and animal herding. She had a number of powers. She was enabled to be able to have a perfect aim with a bow, have strength, and speed. She was clever and able to turn herself and others into animals. She also could look any age she wanted
