Artemis On the island of Ortygia, Lato and Zeus gave birth to a Greek goddess and gave her the name of Artemis. Following her birth, her twin brother Apollo was born. As Artemis matured, she began to appear more appealing. The virgin goddess was admired by many men and gods. She was pure and guarded her virginity vigorously. If one did not act upon a deed she had granted she would grow antagonized and lose ones composure. She was given seven nymphs to protect her. Artemis, whose Roman name is Diana, is the goddess of the hunt along with being the goddess of wilderness,wild life, child birth, virginity, the moon, forests and hills, and archery. Because of this, Homer called her a mistress of wild animals. When a mother dies in childbirth, it is said that she has "taken an arrow from Artemis." She is protective over animals, her loved ones, and her nymphs. She is selfish but yet respectful and caring. If a creature needed guidance or protection she would be the one to help. Her symbols are the bow and arrow, dogs, stags, and the moon. She was very close with her twin brother Apollo. Together they defeated others who were disrespectful towards their mother and father. She was born to serve and protect others. Many looked up to her and wanted her beauty. She used her powers of transformation, prophecy, healing, poetry, music, magic, purification, action, and temperance. Artemis sent revenge to whoever did not do as she commanded. Her only true love was Orion, whom she was tricked into killing. Artemis was usually peaceful but cursed those who disrespected her or the one she cares about. She is a very talented hunter.
