The first test sheet was designed to measure a patient’s overall feeling regarding hospitalization by asking the degree of patients’ physical pain, experience in the hospital, and mood. However, many patients displayed confusion about the items and rating scale, which consisted of five faces without eyes. Therefore, the test sheet was redesigned in a simpler form with clear faces and a question that “How are you feeling physically and emotionally?” in order to clarify and promote easier understanding and fast completion. Considering the diverse background of patients, the scale was presented in five schematic faces, ranging from negative (1) to positive (5), for a friendly approach and to reduce confusion. In order to encompass a vast range of emotions and feelings, written guide ranged “negative” to “positive,” rather than mentioning specific emotions, and the test sheet included a blank that patients could specify their feelings.
Art materials included colored, white, and black paper (sized 9x12” and 12x18”), drawing materials (markers, woodless colored pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels, jumbo crayons, and colored pencils), painting materials (watercolor, tempera cakes, and brushes), collage materials (printed images and words, scissors, and glue), and tactile materials (Model Magic, pompoms, and wood blocks). In addition, materials for specific art projects such as a coloring sheet, mask, and box were prepared

Art reflects life: as society and its institutions change, art remains as a record of historical thoughts and practices. The way in which society views and treats those suffering with mental illness varies depending on the contemporary theory for its cause and its place among society. As man progressed from the superstitious dogma on mental illness surrounding the Medieval period, theories and cures towards mental illness increased in their analytic methods, though it certainly took centuries to overcome the stigma surrounding it. Albrecht Dürer’s Melancholia I (Figure 1), William Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress: The Madhouse (Figure 2), and Vincent van Gogh’s Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Pipe (Figure 3) reflect their period’s treatment…

In order to address racial and ethnic health disparities, we need to support required translation services for non-english speakers, promote a healthcare interpreting profession as essential to a health care organization, and make improvements/adjustments to the current National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health Care (CLAS). It is here that we will see an improvement in overall satisfaction in health care services and delivery for minority groups and a stronger bond with his/her physician. As for addressing the socioeconomic status on health disparities, we need to implement policies that ensure coverage for all individuals in poverty, or figure out a method in which we are able to distribute an ample amount of wealth to those who cannot afford to be insured, although both methods are no simple matter. However, we can also implement policies aimed at better accessibility to education and job opportunities, which will face less opposition, but improve the quality of life of those in…

Healthcare disparities exist among racial/ethnic minorities in the United States. It 's a basic human right to receive the highest quality of care regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender, and the level of treatment or quality of care people receive should not be determined by their race or ethnicity. Although people are aware of this, yet not everyone gets the same quality of care or treatment in the U.S. The United States spends more money on healthcare delivery than most developed countries, and yet the quality of healthcare is lower than most of the developed countries due to healthcare disparities among racial/ethnic minorities (Lavizzo-Mourey, R., 2008).
