Art Theme

Throughout the existence of art, artists have portrayed their feelings through their art by creating a theme for the piece. Art has been around for ages, therefore many pieces of art, regardless of their medium, can share a theme. The pieces chosen for this project are First Abstract Watercolor by Wassily Kandinsky, “Yes You Can” by Donnie McClurkin, “Climb ‘Til Your Dreams Come True” by Helen Steiner Rice, and The Secret Life of an American Teenager. All four of these pieces of art share the common theme that when you focus on possibilities, new opportunities will arise. Focusing on possibilities creates new opportunities, and the previously mentioned art pieces are similar as they all share the same idea, or theme. Wassily Kandinsky was …show more content…
Donnie McClurkin grew up in an abusive home and turned to the church for help (Borden). There, he was introduced to music as an outlet to help him deal with his disturbing past. Influenced by his personal experiences and how he overcame the misfortunes, Donnie McClurkin began to create motivational songs in order to express himself. (Borden) Donnie McClurkin’s songs are recognized on a professional level because of his record labels and a multitude of awards — including three Grammys. In his songs Donnie McClurkin says, “Yes you can, you can do anything if you try, just try” (McClurkin). This section shares the theme because it says that if you try to focus on possibilities, anything can happen and new opportunities will surface. There are copious examples throughout the lyrics that relate to the theme. Another is when he says, “If you believe it, then you can achieve it” (Mcclurkin). The quote here again describes the opportunistic attributes of the song, and proves how the song relates to the theme that focusing on possibilities creates new opportunities. The reason the above quote is of an opportunistic nature is because the phrase implies that if you focus on the possibilities or believe in them, then new opportunities will arise and you can achieve them. Since the parallels between both the song and the theme are so prominent, it is clear that the song’s theme and the theme above are one …show more content…

In one of her famous poems, Climb ‘Til Your Dreams Come True, she incorporates both powerful and religious emotion to the poem. I chose to write about Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, Falling Water. At my funeral, I want people to know that I chose this piece of art because it was how I wanted to live my life. Sturdy and firm but lost in a forest of life and nature. The architecture of the house represents the different changes in my life and how the light that shines through the house, tells a story about no matter which way I turned or how bad it was, there was always a way to see through it. The water that rushes underneath represents how I had tranquility with my life as well as almost disconnecting to the outside world.…

Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past thirty years (on that note, even ten years) acknowledges that the world has changed radically. From the rise and further advancement of computers, to the increasing prevalence of bioengineering, and even something as simple as how people discuss things all demonstrate that this is a radically different world from my parents, my grandparents and my great grandparents. With these innovations, problems both contemporary and archaic have reared their ugly heads; one of the greatest of these issues is bullying. This endearing issue, something in which we all have encountered by some means, and by some form, plays a massive role in our world today. Although it seems like this issue is something with no solution, many resources that have been acquired (from our innovations to the literature that has been created by great minds) prove that there are ideas about how to make this issue cease to exist.…

Art is all around us, no matter where we go or what we do, there will always be a form of art that is nearby, and as a result of this, art has become one of the most significant aspects of a person’s daily life. In a sense, art is quite like water. It is something that is physical, but the changes that it can embody or bring forth are just like the formlessness of water. Art has become something more than just a work that should be admired, but rather, it has become a medium of speech for the ones that create it. In Dorothy Allison’s “This is Our World”, multiple anecdotes are used to allow the reader to better understand art.…

    The Thing Theme

John Carpenters ’s 1982 horror film, The Thing was made as a premise for social commentary on the deterioration of humanity, warning society of the devastating potential of thinking as individuals in isolation rather than a collective. These themes are accentuated through the use of an alien specimen that enters the world of American male scientists based in Antarctica. The alien (or “Thing”) infects living organisms and attempts to take over the human race by ‘imitating’ them, leaving the men in a fight for their own survival as they try to differentiate between “human” and an alien imitation of a human. The term humanity itself is redefined in this film and is stripped to its bare minimum: the mere biological relationship between humans.…

    Invictus Theme

The theme for the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley is you are the master of your fate. The reason I think that this is the theme is because in the beginning the author talks about he wants to thank whatever gods there are for his unconquerable soul. This can be interpreted as the power that we all have freewill. He also tells of under the bludgeoning of chance his head is unbowed meaning he will not submit but knows what he has done but still wants his freewill and will not give in to torture. He admitted the menace of the years will find him and shall find him unafraid for he does not fear what is to come because he knows that there are actions for what he does in the mortal world.…
