It can help students express emotions if they are struggling to voice them. More schools are trying to put more emphasis on the core subjects, limiting the amount of distraction art programs can have on the students (V. Melta, 2015). It cannot be to much of a distraction if graduation rates are higher with schools that have art programs. Art programs aren't any less distracting than sport programs, yet these programs are the last to be cut. Sports aren't for everyone. It seems a little unfair that students who enjoy artistic activities would have to suffer from their activities cut, while jocks can still enjoy
